Sherrod Brown’s Legislation Requiring Federal Government to Buy Only U.S.-Made American Flags is Signed Into Law
President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed legislation authored by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Cleveland Democrat, that requires the federal government to buy only American flags completely produced and manufactured in the United States.
“American flags should be made in America, period,” said a statement from Brown. “Now, because of our years of effort to pass this bill, American flags the federal government buys will be produced and manufactured in America, by American workers.”
Before Brown’s legislation was adopted, the federal government was required to buy flags with 50% American-made content, meaning half of the materials in flags flown at U.S. military bases and other federal buildings can be made in China.
“The flags that fly over federal buildings and military bases will now be completely American made,” said Brown. “And the flags given to families honoring their loved one’s service and sacrifice for our country, will finally be completely made in America.”
