Ohio Minimum Wage Increase Took Effect on Jan. 1, 2024

The state of Ohio increased its minimum wage on Jan. 1, 2024, by 35 cents to $10.45 per hour for non-tipped employees and $5.25 per hour for tipped employees, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Industrial Compliance.

This increase is in line with the Constitutional Amendment passed by Ohio voters in November 2006, which mandates an annual increase in Ohio’s minimum wage based on the rate of inflation. The state minimum wage is tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) for urban wage earners and clerical workers over the 12-month period prior to September. The CPI-W index rose by 3.7% over the 12-month period from Sept. 1, 2022, to Aug. 31, 2023.

"The Ohio AFL-CIO was proud to help spearhead the effort to pass the Constitutional Amendment that raised Ohio's minimum wage with the forethought to tie an increase each year to inflation rates," said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. "We will continue our fight to raise wages and benefits for all working people in Ohio."
