Dayton-Miami Valley AFL-CIO Hosts 'Workers for Sherrod' Event
Union workers on Friday said it's clear who is best for Ohio in the race for U.S. Senate.
Sherrod Brown, a Democrat and the incumbent in the race, takes on corporations and even his own party for workers' rights, said Thomas Ritchie Sr., president of Dayton-Miami Valley AFL-CIO.
Ritchie was joined by Tonya McCoy, UFCW Local 75 Minority Coalition Coordinator and IUPAT District 6 Assistant Service Director David Lay, to discuss the promises Sherrod has delivered over the past several years.
"From the bipartisan infrastructure bill that is creating hundreds of thousands of good-paying, prevailing wage jobs to ensuring the steel on those projects is made here in America, Sherrod Brown has delivered on his promise to begin to restor the digntiy of work," Ritchie said.
He said Brown is trying to protect overtime pay, which is a contrast to Moreno.
"Let's be clear. Sherrod Brown has promised to raise the salary in which workers were exempt from gettting overtime. Under past administrations, if your salary was $684 per week, your employer could deny you overtime. Starting in 2025, that exempt salary nearly doubles to $1128 per week. That opens a lof of folks to get the overtime they deserve," said Ritchie. "Meanwhile, Bernie Moreno lost a law suit where he denied paying overtime to his own workers. It's clear who's on our side."
