Brown Announces Re-Election at Firefighters Union Hall

Last Friday at the IAFF Local 67 firefighters hall in Columbus, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown held an event with union members and supporters after officially filing paperwork to seek reelection. Two of his Republican rivals, entrepreneur Bernie Moreno and Secretary of State Frank LaRose, have already done so.  Candidates have until December 20 to formally file for public office to appear on the 2024 Primary Election ballot.

At the petition filing press conference Senator Brown offered his take on the election, stating his belief that voters will make their decision based on contrasts, and “who’s side” they believe the candidate is on.

“When a CEO makes 300 times what a worker makes something’s wrong,” he added. “And that’s a big part of this, and you start talking about the economy, it’s always about ‘who’s side are you on?’ and voters in Ohio know who’s side I’m on.”

Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga said, “Check the record, Sherrod Brown has always been on the side of working people and trade unionists and we support those who have our backs.”

Instead of dividing the world into right and left, Senator Brown talks about ‘special interests’ and ‘little guys,’ and is clearly identified as the defender of everyday Ohioans.   “When people go to the grocery store, they’re paying higher prices because of executive bonuses, and because of stock buybacks,” Brown argued.

The Senator also made it clear that not only will he draw contrasts on economic and workplace issues but also on citizens’ rights, including women’s access to reproductive and health care services.
